The Splurge List
Or, How I am Channeling my Inner Wastrel This Year
Come this time of year, when the air is crisp and comfort is king, all I want to do is splurge. I don’t know why it happens - perhaps spending is my way of feathering my nest for the coming winter. In any case, come November, there is no end to pillow and comforter and hoodie buying in my mind.
And then there’s books and candles. And then there’s Christmas of course, which is just a trail of hundred dollar bills flying out of my pockets as if I were a treasure goblin hit with a sword or a giant mace (take your pick) every time I see an ad anywhere.
So this year, staring at one of the most expensive sixth of the year, I plan on doing something different. I have a “splurge list.”
A “splurge list,” as I call it, is a list tucked away at the end of my daily to-do journal that gives my unhinged spending a focus. It includes things I truly get joy from: my favorite socks, tried and true clothes, accessories and make up from Amazon, specific gift ideas I have had for my kids and people I love.
And this year, I’m adding undervalued stocks to that list. Maybe I should call it my “stocks and socks” list.
